Walter KernWalter has a bachelor's and a master's in electrical engineering and spent 35 years working for a prominent telephone research laboratory before retiring in 1996.

He spent seven and one-half years as the Motorcycles Guide on About.com beginning in 1999.

He created the Motorcycle Views Blog on January 4, 2007.

Then he founded Motorcycle Views on January 11, 2007, where he retained most of his original motorcycle content and continued writing articles and features about motorcycles.

The Motorcycle Views Forum was established on February 17, 2007.

Finally, the first weekly issue of the Motorcycle Views Newsletter was issued on February 25, 2007. He ceased publication of the newsletter on June 30, 2013 but decided to restart it on September 28, 2014 on a bi-weekly basis. Currently, the newsletter is issued monthly.

Walt taking in the View at AmericadeHe has been an avid motorcycle enthusiast since 1989. His late wife, Jane (see tribute), and he started riding motorcycles after they were 50 years old. They each learned on a 1981 Honda CM400T. He currently rides a 2000 Honda Gold Wing w/Motor Trike conversion.

Walter is a member of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and has completed the beginner's and experienced rider's classes offered by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and has also taken several trike safety classes.

Currently he belongs to the Polar Bear Grand Tour where he created and manages their Web site. He is a past member of NJ Chapter F (F Troop) of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA).

Walter and Jane took their first long ride on a 6,000-mile tour from New Jersey to the Grand Tetons in 1993. They rode twin 1990 red Honda Pacific Coast (PC800) motorcycles. They attended a Rider Rally in Cody, WY and the Sturgis Rally in SD on that same trip. Since then, they attended many rallies including the Americade Rally in Lake George, NY every year from 1994-2008.
